Framing the
The following two documents were developed over the course of the Dialogue to create the conditions for honest and open discussions where participants would feel welcome to share their thoughts and receive the ideas of others with an open mind. We often read and discussed these documents at the beginning of a session to “set the table” for the ensuing conversation. We offer them here, slightly adapted for use by anyone facilitating similar gatherings. The groups can then read and talk about the discussion papers or the document entitled “A Distillation of Insights from the Dialogue, July 2022” that brings together some underlying themes from the Dialogue series.

In 2022, the participants of the dialogue took time to reflect on and distill the key insights on the role of religion and faith communities in overcoming racism in the US which emerged as most meaningful over the previous five years of gathering. This document is the outcome of that process which has been used, similarly to the discussion papers that follow, to facilitate dialogue spaces in a variety of settings. While it may not be possible for groups to discuss all the concept papers, this document encapsulates some of the most salient and resonant ideas from the papers in aggregate and would be a good starting point.
